For The European Night of Museums, I created at the “Musée des instruments” (Musical instruments museum) in Céret, (France) a floor painting inspired by the Indian musical scale and the symbolic representation of the notes. The technic is influenced by the Tamil kolam and the Kerala kalam. The seven basic notes of the Indian scale are named shadja, rishabh, gandhar, madhyam, pancham, dhaivat and nishad, and are shortened to Sa, Ri (Carnatic) or Re (Hindustani), Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, and Ni. Each swara is traditionally held to have originated in the sound of a different animal. SA (peacock), RI (bull), GA (goat), MA (heron), PA (cuckoo), DHA (horse), NI (éléphant).
